Redesigning electronics to overcome component delays

Digital Interlock Software needed a route to market for a circular-screen retrofit product while its existing components faced lead times exceeding 22 weeks.

The challenge

Sourcing the original components faster was not achievable. The hardware needed to change while retaining the board shape and critical interfaces.

The engineering response

AD Series teams in the UK and Shenzhen worked with the customer's developers to redesign the board around RK3566, migrate to Debian Linux, expand memory and add 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The documented result

Samples, a 100-unit trial and the first 500-unit production batch were delivered within the original component sourcing lead time. The project shows how a technology partner can adapt the hardware inside a customer's product.
