The Challenge
Traditional audio systems can perform differently when moved from controlled indoor environments to busy streets, where traffic, buses, and general urban noise create a more demanding acoustic environment.
To address this, AD Series has introduced a new retrofit audio upgrade package designed specifically for on-street deployments.

The Solution
The upgrade kit includes:
Enhanced high-performance speakers
Integrated audio amplifier
Intelligent ambient noise microphone
Dynamic volume adjustment technology
The system continuously monitors surrounding noise levels and automatically adjusts announcement volume, ensuring passengers can clearly hear important travel information when they need it most.

Live Environment Testing
Four upgraded displays were installed and tested in a live operational environment.
During testing, audio announcements were activated repeatedly under varying conditions, including:
Passing vehicle traffic
Stationary buses with engines running
Fluctuating ambient street noise

Performance Results
✅ Clear and audible announcements at the passenger interaction point
✅ Successful operation across all test units
✅ Dynamic response to changing environmental noise levels
✅ Consistent performance in ambient noise conditions ranging from 70dB to 76dB
✅ Audio output measured at approximately 86dB during announcements

The intelligent noise compensation system responded effectively to changing surroundings, helping maintain audibility without excessive volume.

Continuous Improvement
As part of our ongoing product development programme, minor software and firmware refinements are being evaluated to further optimise volume thresholds and deliver the best possible user experience across all deployment environments.
Future hardware enhancements are also planned to further improve audio clarity and acoustic performance.
